Reviewed: Lenovo Yoga convertible laptops with flip appeal

Chinese device maker Lenovo says its new Lenovo Yoga 720 and 520 laptops are now built for mobile device users who enjoy flipping between work and play.

Lenovo has discovered that there are times when mobile device users want the full power and productivity of a personal computer (PC) in a thin and light machine to multitask, constantly flipping between work and play.

The convertible Yoga laptops were announced by Lenovo at the Mobile World Congress 2017 held in Barcelona in Spain. Available in 13, 14 and 15-inch models, the new Yoga laptops balance design, performance and mobility as it can be converted from a laptop mode to a tent mode.

Coupled with an ultra-responsive touch-screen, the new Yoga 720 and Yoga 520 both offer optional active digital pen support for editing, note-taking and sketching on Windows Ink for more authentic personal expression.

As the lines of work and home life continue to blur, users need consistency and continuity across every facet of their lives (work, home, school, hobbies) and are weary of switching from one computer to another based on location or activity.

In a bid to satisfy these needs, Lenovo has designed the Yoga 720 and Yoga 520 to be versatile and this versatility makes them ideal for users who want to effortlessly multitask and switch between budgeting on a spreadsheet with full keyboard in laptop mode to sharing a video in tent mode.

PERFORMANCE

Because users value performance so much, Lenovo says the 15-inch Yoga 720 has been design to stand out as the most powerful convertible laptop in its class with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 discrete graphics and blazing-fast Thunderbolt 3 for the world’s fastest data transfers.

With the new Yoga convertibles, Lenovo says users get the real deal with a top-of-the-line PC and top-notch performance. Better yet, the Yoga 720 features JBL speakers with Dolby Audio Premium to match for a moving audio experience.

FINGERPRINT TECHNOLOGY

To prevent the hassle of logging in with passwords and ensure a safer, convenient and more personal way to help secure the PC, the device maker added an advanced integrated fingerprint reader on the Yoga 720, as well as making it an option on the Yoga 520.

With a touch of their finger, users can swiftly and securely log onto their new Yoga convertibles through Windows Hello.

BATTERY

It is therefore not out of place to say the new Yoga convertibles spot portability with long battery life as the 15-inch Yoga 720 is designed with up to 9 hours of battery life in FHD and the Yoga 520 with up to a whopping 10-hour battery life in FHD.

Facebook Live Chat goes live

Facebook has  announced a new feature-Live Chat with Friends for users to share experiences and connect in real time on Facebook Live.

This latest feature follows the “New Life Interactive Effects” feature that was announced last month.

Facebook says one of the best things about Live is that users can discuss what’s happening in the broadcast in real time. In fact, people comment more than 10 times more on Facebook Live videos than on regular videos.

When it comes to compelling public broadcasts such as a breaking news event, a Questions & Answers with users’ favorite actor or behind-the-scenes action after a big game, Facebook says watching with the community and reading comments is an exciting part of the experience.

“We know sometimes people also want the option to interact with only their friends during a public live broadcast, so we’re rolling out Live Chat with Friends”, Facebook says.

“Live Chat with Friends lets you invite friends to a private chat about a public live broadcast. You can invite friends who are already watching or other friends who you think may want to tune in. You’re able to jump back into the public conversation at any time, and you can still continue chatting with your friends via Messenger after the broadcast ends.

“With Live Chat with Friends, you can be part of big moments with the wider community but also have the option to participate in personal conversations with the people closest to you, directly within the Live experience.”
