Etisalat Nigeria owners have officially swapped the brand identity to 9mobile, CEO of the nation’s fourth biggest mobile phone company, Boye Olusanya says.

Olusanya says that Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), which previously traded as ‘Etisalat Nigeria’ is informing its over 20 million subscribers and other stakeholders that the name change is now official, in a statement made available to Technology Times.

The company’s CEO’s official confirmation comes just as 9mobile also launched its online presence on the new domain name, www.9mobile.com.ng.

“Olusanya says that with switch to 9mobile, Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), which previously traded as ‘Etisalat Nigeria’ is informing its over 20 million subscribers and other stakeholders that the name change is now official.”

Technology Times had reported that EMTS snapped up the Internet name as it switches its brand and online presence that was formerly on www.etisalat.com.ng, after Arab shareholders and owners of the Etisalat brand were made to exit the mobile phone company.

Meanwhile the CEO of the telecoms company reckons the switch “to 9mobile as a further testament of our unwavering commitment to ensuring business continuity as Nigeria’s fourth largest telecom operator.”

According to him, “our new trading name, 9mobile represents our 0809ja heritage, our 9ja-centricity, and our evolution over 9 years of operations in Nigeria. Although our trading name has changed, we remain true to the same values on which our company was built.”
