The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), managers of Nigeria’s .ng Internet domain name, has unveiled categories for nomination for the NIRA 2017 .ng Awards.
NIRA recently called for nominations for its 2017 .ng Awards scheduled to hold later this year.
Revered Sunday Folayan, President of NIRA, says the awards seek to recognise and acknowledge those who are contributing to the growth of the domain name registration and the promotion of the Domain Name System (DNS ) industry in Nigeria.
According to NIRA, the following awards criteria must be met by all nominees for the 2017 .ng awards. The criteria are:
- Company, organization or individual must have registered and is doing business with a .ng domain name.
- The Domain name must have been registered for over 6 months.
- The website associated with the domain name must be active on the Internet.
The nomination for the .ng Awards by the general public which has commenced January 31, closes at midnight February 14, 2017.
According to NIRA, the Awards committee will review all entries/nominations for eligibility and qualification to produce the final short-list of nominees. The list of nominees will be released for general public voting via the website. The committee may reclassify or re-categorize entries and may remove entries that do not meet the entry requirements. Entries that differ substantially from the award criteria will be disqualified without prior notice to the entrants, says the Association.
Folayan also says that voting will be opened to the general public by February 20, 2017. Out of the 100% mark, voting for nominees by the general public will be earn 40% of the total voting score, while the Jury vote carries 60% of the total voting score. The jury is headed by Mr. Shina Badaru, NiRA Board of Trustees (BOT) member. Voting will close on April 3, 2017.
At the end, winners will gain access to .ng Awards Icon, available in various sizes and various formats for inclusion on their websites and marketing collateral.
According to the NIRA President, the .ng Awards celebrate the achievements and innovation of Nigerian Internet initiatives. The awards aim to showcase Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organizations which help to make the Internet a more secure, open, accessible and diverse experience for all.

This award is presented to the company, organization that has demonstrated excellence in business, innovation, online user experience and commitment to the Nigeria Internet community while embracing sound business practices. - Most Innovative Online Service Company
This award is presented to the organization that promotes innovative service delivery on the Internet. - Best Banking Website/Portal
This award is presented to the bank’s website or portal that delivers the best user experience. - Best Insurance Company Website/Portal
This award is presented to the insurance company website or portal that delivers the best user experience. - Best E-payment Website/Portal
This award is presented to the E-payment company with the best website or portal that delivers the best user experience. - Best Tertiary Institution website/portal
This award is presented to the Tertiary Institution/University with the best .edu.ng website/portal; based on how current the website is, the level of local content on the website, ease of use, relevance of the website for delivery of educational services and how dynamic the website is. - Best Secondary School website/portal
This award is presented to the Secondary school with the best .sch.ng website/portal; based on how current the website is, the level of local content on the website, ease of use, relevance of the website for delivery of educational services and how dynamic the website is. - Best Primary School website/portal
