The 2018 Technology Innovation Expo which is intended as part of Federal Government commitment to stimulate technological inventions opens today at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology says at a press briefing in Abuja that the event also serves as research and development platform for the purpose of commercialization, scheduled to hold from today through March 9.
Onu says that the theme of the day is “fast-tracking sustainable development of Nigeria through science and technology.
The expo will bring together researchers with the aim of bringing into focus the innovative capacity in the research institutes, universities and industrial laboratories and the informal sector of the economy, he adds.
The main objective of the 2018 edition will include follow-up on memorandum of understanding signed as a result of the previous expo and promoting collaborations among research institutions and researchers/inventors.
The Minister recalls that the 2017 expo exposed some inventions and Innovations to investors who assisted in commercialising some of the research products.
“I am happy to inform you that one of our research products has been the high-density nutrient biscuits produced by NASCO Food Limited, Jos and is now available in the Nigerian market for the use of children and adults”, he adds.
He says that some inventions in the area of health care delivery have been taken over for commercialisation by the giant pharmaceutical company May Baker, the finished product will be in the market in few months time.
