Troyka Holdings, a Nigerian marketing and communication conglomerate says it is backing three Nigerian startups to showcase their talent at the Viva Technology Startup Connect holding June 30 in Paris.
Viva Technology Startup Connect, a tech exhibition and talent hunt will bring together 5,000 startups to pitch their product to global audience including top investors, venture capitalist and companies attending the event.
Troyka Holdings and Hot Sauce, one of its subsidiaries say they plan to select the best startups able to showcase their talent to a global audience of 30,000 expected attendees to make Nigeria attractive to foreign investors
“Viva Technology Startup Connect is about getting close to change makers who we want to connect with opportunity on the global stage. Troyka wants to emphasise that connection and collaboration with the change makers in technology is the way to go for transformation of businesses”, Mr Solomon Ikhioda, Chief Future Officer of Troyka Holdings says at a press conference announcing the plans in Lagos.
The three-day tech show organised by Publicis Groupe, the French multinational advertising and public relations company, hopes to bring startups and top investors under one roof to leverage information technologies to bring disruptive change.
“That is the reason we are here today, connecting change makers in the Nigerian technology scene with opportunity on the global stage so they can actually thrive, we may be seeing a unicorn or two coming out of this environment in the nearest future by the way of the scale and the opportunities that will be provided by this initiative from Publicis”, he adds.
Also speaking, Mr. Dayo Adefila, CEO of Hot Sauce says: “we see Viva Technology Startup Connect like the olympics for startup organisations. We are saying that we want to help the Nigerian startup businesses, give them a chance to showcase what they have to the rest of the world because we know Nigeria always has some of the best but everybody needs a platform because no matter how good you are if you don’t have one platform to start to be known, you will just remain in your back end.”
Viva Technology Startup Connect is broken into four specific segments starting with Labs, Challenges, Imagine and Hall of Tech, the Hot Sauce CEO adds.
There are 200 challenges which caught across major economy sectors like, smart cities, hospitality and tourism, open transportation among others, where startups are expected to find solutions that can transform the businesses of those industries.
Adefila says the local promoters of Viva Technology Startup Connect are partnering with top technology hubs in the country like cC-Hub, iDeaHub, Angel Network and others that will help ”sound out the startups under them to enter the challenge.”
“We will do the best of the best selection from where we will pick three startups from those who have been selected by Viva. We will do this selection with some of the renowned tech hubs we are collaborating with and we will provide return ticket form for the selected ones, as well as event ticket and visa processing.”
He adds that “we have told the hubs and startups that once there is a notification that their entry has been selected to pitch, they should inform us so we can start preparation immediately.”
According to him at least one journalist would also be sponsored by Troyka and Hot Sauce to cover the event in Paris.
