One of the most popular apps currently on the apps store, Masquerade has announced its acquisition by Mark Zuckerberg-owned Facebook.
Masquerade is an app that lets you overlay playful, animated filters over your face using your phone’s selfie camera. You can also record video in the app or take a still photo to share on other social networks.
The picture effects app joins a range of creative tools Facebook has already added to its app, like stickers, finger doodles, and photo filters.
‘’At Masquerade, we’ve worked hard to make video more fun and engaging by creating filters that enhance and alter your appearance. Now, we’re excited to join forces with Facebook and bring the technology to even more people. Within Facebook, we’re going to be able to reach people at a scale like never before’’, Masquerade said in a post announcing the deal.
According to Masquerade, the app will continue as a standalone product.
“While we will be partnering with Facebook to integrate our technology, the app will stay up and running so you’ll continue to record fun selfies and keep using the product. You can also expect us to keep adding fun features’’, according to the app maker.
The company however did not disclose financial details of the acquisition.
