Mr Ferdi Moolman, CEO of MTN Nigeria, today confirmed that no deal has been reached in “confidential negotiations” underway with the Federal Government on the N1.04 trillion fined the mobile phone company for non-registration of 5.2 million customers.
Moolman disputed reports that MTN Nigeria has proposed what was regarded as a final payment to negotiators on the government side describing them as “premature.”
The MTN Nigeria CEO was quoted in a company statement made available to Technology Times that “the confidential negotiations are still very much ongoing with the authorities to achieve an amicable resolution of the matter.”
He added that, “accordingly, no further comment can be made at this time.”
Technology Times had earlier reported details of ongoing talks between MTN and government negotiators that informed the payment of N50 billion in “good faith” and the withdrawal of a lawsuit challenging the government’s imposition of the unprecedented fine.
