The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) TechforGood Hackathon regional event is scheduled to take place despite the incidents of looting at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) digital innovation park in Kano, according to organisers.
The purpose of the 3MTT TechforGood Hackathon is to bring together individuals to showcase their talents, innovate, and develop impactful solutions to address pressing issues in the nation.
The event, organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to create job opportunities for 2 million Nigerian youth, according to the Ministry.
In a video shared on the FMCIDE’s YouTube channel, the upcoming cohort 1 Hackathon Kano sub-regional finals were announced. Trainers, trainees, and community managers were seen highlighting the benefits of the programme across different states.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, FMCIDE Minister, says the commitment to the programme remains unwavering despite setbacks caused by recent protest events.
The 3MTT program aims to cultivate a pool of young talent in Nigeria by providing training in various digital skills through selected technical talent training providers. Despite the recent challenges faced at the NCC’s digital innovation park in Kano, by the protesters of the #EndBadGovernance#, the Hackathon sub-regional finals are still scheduled to proceed as planned, according to the organisers.
Community manager Mustapha Umar emphasised that “the vision of 3MTT is to train people for global market not just Nigeria market”. Also, a fellow, Bello Abdullahi from Kaduna shared his project involving the development of an agri-tech product and its targeted customer base.
Faiz Muhammad, a 3MTT training provider in Kano State, discussed the potential expansion of the programme’s offerings. With approximately 200 applicants being trained daily at the facility, there is a growing need to expand to at least two additional locations within the state to accommodate the demand for training opportunities, he explains.
