Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has inaugurated the board of the Abia State Technological Skills Acquisition Centre (ASTSAC), appointing global innovation expert Professor Ndubuisi Ekekwe as chairman in a strategic move to accelerate the state’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Government House, Umuahia, Otti says the centre will serve as a hub for nurturing homegrown talent in emerging technologies and preparing young people to thrive in the digital economy.
“These are the best of the best that you can find in the technology space,” Otti says. “This is a service to fatherland and to Alaigbo. We are creating an environment where innovation can flourish, driven by merit, skill, and creativity rather than geographical boundaries.”
“Technology has become a critical enabler of development,” he says. “We are here to build Abia’s technology capability and unlock prosperity across the state. From Isuikwuato to every part of Abia, young people will feel the impact of visionary leadership.”
The Governor explains that the initiative aligns with his administration’s vision to position Abia as a regional technology and innovation hub capable of delivering solutions to both local and global challenges.
Responding, Professor Ekekwe says the board’s mission is to build Abia’s technological capacity and empower communities through innovation.

Board member Dr. Rita Amuchienwa describes the initiative as timely, pledging that the team will deliver measurable results by equipping youth with digital and technical skills that power today’s economy.
According to the government, the Abia State Technological Skills Acquisition Centre (ASTSAC) is a key pillar of Governor Otti’s plan to build a knowledge-based economy. The centre is expected to train young Abians in software development, renewable energy, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other frontier technologies, laying the foundation for an innovative and self-sustaining state economy.
