Awarri a tech company set out to enable AI for Africa, has said it will empower 5,000 youths in Nigeria to be absorbed by the job market come 2026.
Awarri an AI company founded by Silas Adekunle and Eniola Adun, recently developed an app called LangEasy, celebrated as Nigeria’s first multilingual Large Language Model (LLM). The app, which was supported by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), DataDotOrg and National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), is a development aimed at building Nigeria’s LLM.
The free AI app works with internet connection by asking that the user records him or herself, translates the recording into a different language ( with options Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin Ibibio and accented English) and then reads the translation.
In an effort to solve the unemployment issue of Nigerian youth, Awarri and NITDA said they have partnered to empower Nigeria’s digital future as they plan to train and employ 5,000 youths by 2026. This effort also paves way for an opportunity to make Artificial Intelligence more accessible and applicable at grassroot level, according to the tech company.
In addition, the employment process has began, as youths starting with the 3MTT fellows are been considered for hiring once the criterias are met, amongst which includes being fluent in English and local Nigerian languages, according to the promoters of the programme.
