Airtel Nigeria and Google have partnered to introduce a device that allows users in Nigeria to transform their analogue televisions into smart TVs.

Airtel says that the collaboration aims to enhance the entertainment experience for millions, making it easier for households to access digital content like never before following the introduction of the Airtel Smart Router.

“At Airtel, our goal to bridge the digital gap includes the provision of affordable entertainment content. Through this partnership with Google, we continue to revolutionize the entertainment space as the Airtel Smart Router offers a complete experience, delivering internet services and easy access to world-class entertainment through YouTube,” Femi Oshinlaja, Chief Commercial Officer at Airtel Nigeria, says.

According to him, “the Smart Router, which retails for ₦25,000 and comes with free unlimited data for 30 days, makes it much easier for users across the country to stream movies, football matches, cartoons, music, tutorials, inspirational content, podcasts, and much more.”

The Smart Router features YouTube integration, a custom app, and a dedicated YouTube button on the remote, all powered by an optimised operating system. The device simplifies access to various content, according to Airtel.

Femi Adeniran, Director of Corporate Communications & CSR at Airtel, says that “the integration of YouTube on the Airtel Smart Router offers an unmatched simplification of the customer experience, transforming how our customers consume digital content at home.”

On his part, Olumide Balogun, West Africa Director at Google says that “YouTube has always been about connecting people with the content they love, whether it’s exploring new hobbies, staying informed, or discovering creative inspiration.
