Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has called for the adoption of digital technology in Nigeria’s judicial system to ensure faster and more transparent justice delivery.
Eno made the call on Monday while declaring open a three-day top management retreat of the Federal Ministry of Justice in Uyo.
The Governor says the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain can improve case management, speed up trials, and ease congestion in correctional facilities. He explains that virtual hearings and e-filing processes are making access to justice easier while reducing delays in court proceedings.

“The use of AI and Blockchain, where cases are stored in an orderly and easily accessible manner, will certainly lead to speedy trials of suspects awaiting trial,” Eno says.
Governor: Akwa Ibom State embracing digital governance
“The use of AI and Blockchain, where cases are stored in an orderly and easily accessible manner, will certainly lead to speedy trials of suspects awaiting trial,” Eno says.
He notes that Akwa Ibom State is already embracing digital governance through the creation of a Ministry of Science and Digital Economy, which is simplifying procurement, recruitment, and other government services.
According to him, the 2025 state budget is making provisions for three technology-driven evidence rooms in police stations across Uyo to enhance compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (2015).
The 2026 budget, he adds, will fund high-tech forensic laboratories, while plans are underway to establish an Office of the Public Defender to provide free legal assistance to vulnerable citizens.
Eno also discloses that the state Ministry of Justice is working with the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy to deploy digital solutions for case management. The next civil service recruitment exercise, he says, will be fully digitalised.
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, commended the Governor for hosting the retreat and praising his developmental initiatives.
Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Beatrice Jedy-Agba, says the retreat is aimed at aligning the Ministry with global digital transformation trends in justice administration.
The retreat was attended by members of the State Executive Council, political leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors.
