The Akwa Ibom State Government in Nigeria, under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno, on Wednesday launched a digital payment system for intervention grants designed to support students with disabilities.
According to the Directorate of ICT and Digital Services, Akwa IBom State, this initiative aligns with the Governor’s commitment to ensuring timely payment of student bursaries and fostering inclusivity in education.
“The intervention grants aim to provide financial support to students with disabilities from Akwa Ibom State, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to pursue their education,” according to the ICT agency.
The intervention grants are part of a larger N100 million Education Intervention Fund established by the Akwa Ibom State Government in June 2023. This fund managed by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Women Affairs is specifically dedicated to “assist the physically challenged students of Akwa Ibom origin and other disabled students residing in the state and studying in public tertiary institutions across the state.”
The Akwa Ibom State Government said that the new digital platform streamlines the application process, allowing students to apply online through a dedicated portal.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Government, to ensure a successful application, students must be registered with the Ministry of Education and possess the following documents:
