The Anambra State Government has crossed the first half of its plan to build a 2000 kilometre fibre optic cable network across the state to deliver high-speed connectivity.
The progress report was disclosed by Professor Charles Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, during a Twitter Space held to virtually interact with residents of Anambra.
According to Governor Soludo, almost half of the fibre optic project has been completed to ensure that the people of Anambra enjoy reliable and high-speed connectivity.

Governor Soludo also emphasizes the importance of human capital to Anambra. “Human capital is Anambra’s greatest resource.” To this end, the state aims to provide human capital that are productive at home and exportable abroad. In order to achieve this goal of the state, Anambra State has trained 5000 youths in the “Nwa Boy” apprenticeship system, and they have been empowered with ₦2 billion with another 8700 undergoing training likewise, according to Governor Soludo.
Governor Soludo: We want to turn Anambra State into the Silicon Valley of Nigeria
This project, he says, would fundamentally change the story of Anambra and position the state on the world map in terms of technology.
“Remember,” Governor Soludo told attendees on the Twitter Space session, “part of our aim is to turn Anambra into the Silicon Valley of Nigeria, and we are laying the foundation fundamentally.”
Furthermore, during the session, Governor Soludo elaborated on the Silicon Valley initiative. He says that 25,000 youths have been trained in basic digital skills. Additionally, he adds that the Silicon Valley building has been acquired and is located within the premises of the Government House
An Anambra resident, John Ifeanyi Chukwu, inquired about the government’s plans regarding the establishment of an Independent Power Plant and electricity grid. In response, Governor Soludo responds that , “the Anambra Electrical Law, designed to create Anambra Electricity, is now before the Senate, and I expect it will be passed before the first quarter of next year.”
The Governor identifies transmission challenges as a significant one while explaining that decoupling from the National Grid is a medium-term agenda, and cannot be achieved in the short term.
He also highlighted the government’s focus on solar energy as a dominant power source. “Over 30,000 streetlights have been converted to solar,” he adds. Additionally, there are plans to pipe gas across the state to energise independent power plants, particularly gas plants.
