Anambra State said it wants to become a leading tech hub in Africa with the approval of a permanent site for the Solution Innovation District (SID) in Awka, the state capital.
The Solution Innovation District said in a statement that the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has approved the construction of the district. The permanent site will feature a state-of-the-art Innovation Block spanning 3842 square meters. This facility will also be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including Enterprise Data Centers, labs for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Virtual Reality, alongside recreational areas like gaming rooms and napping pods.
According to SID, the vision is clear as Governor Soludo aims to position Anambra as the top fintech startup hub in Africa, to compete with established tech centres like Lagos, Nairobi, and Cape Town.
Led by Special Adviser Ms. Chinwe Okoli, the Solution Innovation District has already impacted over 100,000 young people in Anambra through digital skills training programmes and competitions, awarding cash prizes to fuel innovation.
One such competition is the Techstars Startup Weekend, where founders from various sectors can compete for cash prizes, network with peers, and meet industry experts and mentors. Another Startup Weekend is set to be held on June 27 to 29, 2024, at the Technology Incubation Centre, located beside the Umudim Area Command in Nnewi, Anambra. The cash prize for this upcoming event is ₦500,000..
“This District,” SID said, “will attract global and local companies, provide incubators, accelerators, and a thriving ecosystem for tech talent. Anambra’s GDP is set to skyrocket as tech businesses flood in.”
