Anthropic has confirmed a service disruption affecting its AI chatbot, Claude, after reporting “elevated errors” on Monday that limited access to parts of its platform.

The first notice appeared on the company’s status page at approximately 12:49 p.m. Nigerian time, stating that it was “currently investigating this issue.” A subsequent update at 1:06 p.m. provided further clarity on the scope of the disruption.

“We have identified that the Claude API is working as intended,” the company stated. “The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths.”

The first notice appeared on the company’s status page at approximately 12:49 p.m. Nigerian time, stating that it was “currently investigating this issue.” A subsequent update at 1:06 p.m. provided further clarity on the scope of the disruption.

The clarification indicates that the core application programming interface (API) remains operational, a critical distinction for developers and enterprise customers that embed Claude into their own applications and workflows. The disruption appears concentrated on the web interface and user authentication systems rather than the underlying large language model infrastructure.

According to the company’s update, the errors are affecting the Claude chatbot interface, the Claude Console developer platform, and Claude Code, Anthropic’s AI-powered coding assistant. Users attempting to log in or log out of Claude.ai encountered access challenges during the outage window.

Anthropic has not disclosed the root cause of the incident nor provided a definitive timeline for full restoration of services. However, by isolating the disruption to Claude.ai and login/logout pathways, the company suggests that the issue is likely tied to access management systems rather than model performance or API stability.

The incident follows a previous episode of “elevated errors” on February 28, 2026, when issues were identified and resolved affecting Claude Opus 4.6, the company’s then-latest generation model.

As generative AI platforms become increasingly embedded in enterprise operations, analysts say, software development pipelines, and mission-critical digital services, even short-lived outages underscore the strategic importance of infrastructure resilience, redundancy architecture, and transparent uptime reporting in the rapidly intensifying AI market.

Anthropic says it continues to investigate the current issue and is expected to issue further updates as more details become available.
