Apple has expanded its iPhone 16 family on Wednesday with the debut of the new iPhone 16e smartphone.

The new iPhone 16e, to sell at the equivalent of ₦903,292.00 ($599), is a model engineered to deliver many of the flagship features found in the premium iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models at a more accessible price, according to its makers.

The iPhone 16e has been introduced as a more affordable member of the iPhone 16 series designed to deliver “breakthrough battery life,” fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence at a price of $599 (₦903,292.00

The iPhone 16e has been introduced as a more affordable member of the iPhone 16 series designed to deliver “breakthrough battery life,” fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence at a price of $599 (₦903,292.00), according to Apple.

The device, which replaces the previous iPhone SE naming, is set to begin pre-orders on Friday, February 21, with availability starting February 28 in 59 countries, including key markets such as the U.S., China, and India.

Apple says that the iPhone 16e model offers the best battery performance ever on a 6.1‑inch iPhone—lasting up to six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than all previous iPhone SE models.

“iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup, including breakthrough battery life, fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence,” Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing says. “We’re so excited for iPhone 16e to complete the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the iPhone experience to even more people.”

Apple’s new model is engineered to take a larger share of the mid-range market by integrating many of the advanced features seen in its premium models at a lower price point.

Notably, the iPhone 16e incorporates Apple’s first in-house C1 cellular modem – described as “the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone” – which supports fast and reliable 5G connectivity.

Built around the advanced A18 chip and the company’s own Apple Intelligence system, the iPhone 16e promises faster performance and extended battery life. The device also features a 48MP 2-in-1 Fusion camera that enables optical-quality zoom in a single lens setup.

The new model will be offered in matte black and white finishes, with colorful cases available for personalisation. While the flagship iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models offer advanced features—including dual or triple‑camera systems, enhanced displays, the iPhone 16e adopts a similar design aesthetic with a 6.1‑inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, Face ID, and the transition to a USB‑C connector,.

Featuring iOS 18, Apple’s integration of Apple Intelligence across its devices means that even the entry‑level iPhone 16e benefits from the suite of smart, on‑device features. These include context‑aware photo enhancements, natural language search within the Photos app, and even ChatGPT‑assisted writing tool.
