Apple on Tuesday introduced Apple Invites, a new iPhone app designed to help users create custom invitations for any occasion.

The app, the tech company says, which is available as a free download from the App Store for iOS 18 devices and via the web at iCloud, aims to simplify the process of planning events by integrating features from iPhone, iCloud, and Apple Music.

Apple describes the app as a platform where “an event comes to life from the moment the invitation is created, and users can share lasting memories even after they get together,” according to Brent Chiu-Watson, Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps and iCloud. “Apple Invites brings together capabilities our users already know and love across iPhone, iCloud, and Apple Music, making it easy to plan special events.”

The app lets users choose an image from their photo library or pick one from a curated gallery of backgrounds suited to different occasions. It also integrates with Maps and Weather so guests receive directions and local forecasts on the day of the event. In addition, invitees can contribute photos and videos to a Shared Album and collaborate on Apple Music playlists that serve as the event soundtrack.

For users who want to add a personal touch, Apple’s built-in “Image Playground” lets them generate original images using concepts and descriptions from their photo library. When composing invitations, the app’s Writing Tools assist users in “finding just the right turn of phrase to meet the moment,” Apple says.

Hosts can manage their events easily by reviewing RSVPs, sharing invitations via a link, and selecting which details to include in the invitation preview, such as the event background or location.

While invitation creation requires an iCloud+ subscription, guests can RSVP without needing an Apple Account or an Apple device. Attendees also have control over how their details are displayed and can opt to leave or report an event at any time.

The app is part of a broader suite of iCloud+ premium features, which include expanded storage, Private Relay for private browsing, Hide My Email for enhanced email security, HomeKit Secure Video, custom email domains, and Family Sharing.

Apple Invites is now available as a free download for all iPhone models running iOS 18 or later, and it can also be accessed through the web.
