Apple has released iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, introducing new AI-driven tools under its Apple Intelligence system.

The updates, which became available on Wednesday, promises to ”elevate users’ experience with iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and builds on the first set of capabilities already introduced,” Apple says.
Among the new features is Image Playground, which lets users generate custom images with themes and styles. There’s also Genmoji, a tool for creating personalised emojis from text or photos. Writing Tools now include a “Describe Your Change” feature, designed to make tasks like resume editing or crafting creative content easier.

Apple: Users can tap ChatGPT without switching between apps
Apple says it has also integrated ChatGPT into Writing Tools and Siri, where “users can tap into ChatGPT’s expertise without having to switch between apps.”
According to the tech company, “with the ChatGPT integration, Siri can suggest a user access ChatGPT for certain requests, and Siri can provide the response directly. With Compose, users can ask ChatGPT to generate content for anything they are writing about from the systemwide Writing Tools. They can also use ChatGPT’s image-generation capabilities to add images alongside their written content. Users can choose whether to enable ChatGPT integration, and are in full control of when to use it and what information is shared with ChatGPT.”
For iPhone 16 users, Apple Intelligence now includes Camera Control, which uses AI to enhance features like text translation and object recognition directly through the camera.
The update also brings localised English support to countries such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K., with plans to add more languages, including Chinese, German, and Spanish, by April 2025.
This rollout builds on features introduced with iOS 18.1 in October, including systemwide Writing Tools for summarising and rewriting text, an improved Siri with more conversational abilities, and the Clean Up feature in Photos for removing unwanted objects.
Apple says its AI features rely on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute to protect user data. Commenting on the launch of Apple Intelligence in October, CEO Tim Cook said, “Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning to put Apple’s generative models at the core of our devices, giving our users a personal intelligence system that is easy to use — all while protecting their privacy.”
The updates are now available for compatible devices, including iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 16 models, iPads with A17 Pro chips, and Macs with M1 chips or later.
