Apple has introduced the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, its most advanced smartphones yet, featuring thinner titanium frames, a faster A19 Pro chip, redesigned camera systems, brighter Super Retina XDR displays, and longer battery performance.
The iPhone 17 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display, while the larger Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch screen. Both support ProMotion technology with up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rates. Apple says the displays reach 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, include Always-On functionality, and are built with thinner borders. The new Ceramic Shield 2 provides three times better scratch resistance and anti-reflection coating to reduce glare.

The front 18MP Centre Stage camera allows portrait or landscape selfies without rotating the device, uses AI to include everyone in group shots, and enables ultra-stable 4K HDR video with Dual Capture, recording front and rear simultaneously.
Apple says iPhone 17 Pro is most powerful iPhone ever made
“iPhone 17 Pro is by far the most powerful iPhone we’ve ever made, with a stunning new design rebuilt from the inside out to maximize performance and deliver an enormous leap in battery life,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, says. “With three 48MP Fusion cameras, a new Center Stage front camera experience, and pro-level video features, the creative opportunities are endless. iPhone 17 Pro sets a new standard for the smartphone industry and is a massive upgrade for our most demanding users.”
Both models feature three 48MP Fusion cameras, the Main, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto, with the Pro Max offering the “longest optical-quality zoom ever on iPhone at 8x.” Apple says the updated Photonic Engine preserves natural detail, reduces noise, and improves colour accuracy, while digital zoom reaches up to 40x. The front 18MP Centre Stage camera allows portrait or landscape selfies without rotating the device, uses AI to include everyone in group shots, and enables ultra-stable 4K HDR video with Dual Capture, recording front and rear simultaneously.

By eliminating the physical SIM, the devices gain extra battery capacity, extending video playback by up to two hours. In Nigeria, major carriers such as MTN, Airtel, and T2 already support eSIM, allowing users to take advantage of this feature locally.
The A19 Pro chip, paired with an Apple-designed vapor chamber, delivers up to 40% better sustained performance than the previous generation, according to Apple. The 6-core CPU and GPU, along with a 16-core Neural Engine, power AI features, AAA gaming, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Pro Max offers Apple’s best battery life ever, while both models support 50% charge in 20 minutes with the optional 40W Dynamic Power Adapter.
The devices feature aerospace-grade aluminum unibodies with improved heat dissipation and larger batteries. Both include an Action button, Camera Control, and a range of MagSafe-compatible accessories. Apple says the iPhone 17 Pro uses 30% recycled content, while the Pro Max features 80% recycled titanium.
eSIM connectivity
Apple also introduced eSIM-only models in select countries, which use a digital SIM instead of a physical card. Apple says eSIM “offers greater flexibility, better security, and seamless connectivity” and supports over 500 carriers worldwide. By eliminating the physical SIM, the devices gain extra battery capacity, extending video playback by up to two hours. In Nigeria, major carriers such as MTN, Airtel, and 9mobile already support eSIM, allowing users to take advantage of this feature locally.
