Lanre Ajayi ATCON
Lanre Ajayi, ATCON President, says the forum which is open to all operators in the telecoms sector in Nigeria, is designed to create an opportunity for key industry players to interact with the regulator, with the aim of building a continual good working relationship.

Lagos. December 7, 2012: The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has announced plans to host the Telecoms Executives and Regulator Forum 2012.

The event slated for December 12, 2012 will hold at the Golden Gate Paradise, Ikoyi, Lagos, says the pressure group of telecoms companies in the country.

Eugene Juwah, Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), will present a keynote address which will cover, amongst other things, Quality of Service issue; Number Portability; Open Access to Broadband Infrastructure; Provision of Frequency Spectrum for Service delivery as well as Mainstreaming Local Content in the Nigerian Telecoms development.

Lanre Ajayi, President of ATCON, is expected to set the stage for the day’s discussion through a welcome address.

ATCON says that the forum which is open to all operators in the telecoms sector in Nigeria, is designed to create an opportunity for key industry players to interact with the regulator, with the aim of building a continual good working relationship.

“It is also aimed at creating a platform for the regulator to update the industry on the regulator’s directions and plans for the industry in the coming years”, ATCON says in a statement.

Furthermore, the forum is designed as a veritable avenue for the regulator to receive feedback from the industry with a view to understanding the challenges and prospects industry players have to grapple with and explore to ensure sustained growth of the industry.

Participants are expected to brainstorm on measures that would accelerate the expansion of telecoms services across the federation in the years ahead.

Under the plan, the forum includes a panel discussion sessions to allow elaborate and judicious deliberations on the various sub-themes. Some of the confirmed panelists include The CEO of key telecoms companies in Nigeria.

According to the body, “participation in this forum is restricted to top executives of telecoms operating companies. As the name of the event implies, participation is strictly for high level management personnel of operating companies. Therefore, delegates to the forum must consist of decision makers in the participating organizations. This is to ensure that issues are discussed with seriousness of purpose.”

ATCON is the umbrella organisation of all telecoms companies operating in Nigeria. It is the apex telecoms industry association providing a central voice for the telecoms sector in Nigeria. Since its official inauguration in December 1993, ATCON has been in the forefront of advocacies for the rapid development and accelerated expansion of telecoms in Nigeria.

ATCON says it has always collaborated with and supports the NCC in efforts at ensuring policy consistency and stable regulatory regime noting that the Telecom Executives and Regulator Forum 2012 is one in the series of information-sharing activities the body has planned for the overall benefit of the telecoms industry.
