Adedeji, former Airtel Nigeria GM, named 9Mobile CTIO

The Board of Directors of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), operating as 9Mobile, has appointed former GM, Network Services at rival Airtel Nigeria, Ayodeji Adedeji, as the new Chief Technical and Information Officer (CTIO) of the nation's fourth largest mobile phone company.

The Board of Directors of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), operating as 9Mobile, has appointed former GM, Network Services at rival Airtel Nigeria, Ayodeji Adedeji, as the new Chief Technical and Information Officer (CTIO) of the nation’s fourth largest mobile phone company.

The appointment of Adedeji, 9Mobile says today in a statement made available to Technology Times, is in line with its strategic business transformation agenda to bring new ideas, solutions, and capabilities towards delivering a robust network experience to its customers.

Prior to joining 9mobile, the mobile phone company’s new CTIO served as the General Manager of Network Services at Airtel Nigeria, where he led a team of over 100 professionals managing critical network operations, including the successful implementation of VOLTE/IMS/5G Core NSA. His leadership in these areas contributed significantly to enhancing network capacity and operational efficiency.

Ayodeji Adedeji: Who’s 9Mobile CTIO?

9mobile highlights that Adedeji brings over 25 years of extensive industry experience, with a strong background in Network Operations, Network Architecture, Service Delivery Management, and Network Design and Planning. His expertise covers advanced technologies such as 4G, 5G, and IP, with a career spanning multiple regions including Europe, The Caribbean, the USA, and Africa.

Prior to joining 9mobile, the mobile phone company’s new CTIO served as the General Manager of Network Services at Airtel Nigeria, where he led a team of over 100 professionals managing critical network operations, including the successful implementation of VOLTE/IMS/5G Core NSA. His leadership in these areas contributed significantly to enhancing network capacity and operational efficiency.

Obafemi Banigbe, 9Mobile Chief Executive Officer, says that “we’re excited to welcome Ayodeji to the 9mobile family. His appointment marks a pivotal moment in 9mobile’s technical and engineering innovation journey. It is a major part of our business transformation process which has also seen the recent appointment of Abolaji Idowu as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO)”. He further expressed that Adedeji’s potential would scale the network and improve service quality for customers.

On his new role, Adedeji says that, “I am honoured to take on the role of Chief Technical and Information Officer and excited to collaborate with the talented team at 9Mobile to drive innovation, harness technology, and deliver impactful solutions that will propel growth. My focus will be on driving a digital-first, customer-centric approach to accelerate the growth of the network and bring delight to our customers.”

Adedeji holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Digital Telecommunications) from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and has undergone extensive training in various areas including Project Management, Network Technologies, and AWS Cloud. He is also a Mini MBA graduate from Tekedia Institute.

Adedeji’s career has seen him hold key positions at companies such as Hargray Communications, Ericsson, Etisalat Nigeria, and most recently, Airtel Nigeria. His work has been instrumental in driving business continuity, network security, and technological advancements, earning him recognition as a leader in the industry.

As the new CTIO, Adedeji will lead the Technical and IT teams at 9Mobile, overseeing the technological direction of the company and driving innovation across its IT infrastructure. His strategic leadership is expected to play a crucial role in aligning the organisation’s technology initiatives with its broader growth and operational excellence goals.
