Bayobab, MTN Group’s digital infrastructure services company, and China Mobile International Limited (CMI), a subsidiary of China Mobile, have reached an agreement to explore digital connectivity opportunities across Africa.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which was signed at Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona on Thursday, focuses on collaboration in digital infrastructure development, including wholesale mobility and fixed business operations.
“This agreement paves the way for new opportunities as we collaborate to connect Africa and create value for our stakeholders,” Mazen Mroué, CEO of MTN Digital Infrastructure – Bayobab says. “We will look to explore opportunities in Digital Infrastructure, including Wholesale Mobility and Fixed Business, as well as new initiatives to drive the digital transformation agenda across the continent.”

Bayobab, formerly known as MTN GlobalConnect, has been rolling out fiber networks and digital services across Africa. The company—named after the baobab tree, often called the “tree of life”—is rebranding itself as a next-generation platform that connects African markets to global digital solutions.
