Borno State is advancing efforts to build Artificial Intelligence (AI) capacity through a partnership between the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (BICTDA) and Kashim Ibrahim University.
The collaboration was formalised during a meeting at the BICTDA headquarters, bringing together government and academia to support the adoption of AI across the university’s academic and administrative systems, according to a statement by the agency.
Kabir Wanori, Executive Secretary of BICTDA, says the partnership is aimed at strengthening institutional capacity.

“This partnership marks a strategic milestone in equipping our institutions with the capacity to harness Artificial Intelligence to transform teaching, drive impactful research, and strengthen governance across Borno State,” he says.
According to him, the engagement addressed concerns over the increasing use of AI tools without formal training, particularly within academic environments where issues of ethics, accuracy and originality are critical.
“This partnership marks a strategic milestone in equipping our institutions with the capacity to harness Artificial Intelligence to transform teaching, drive impactful research, and strengthen governance across Borno State,” he says.
The delegation from Kashim Ibrahim University, led by Bintu Mustapha, Director of the Centre for Research and Development, identified areas for application of AI including lecture delivery, automated grading, research data analysis and administrative processes.
As part of the initial phase, both institutions have agreed to organise a two-day capacity-building workshop for Heads of Departments, centres and other stakeholders. The training will focus on practical AI applications in teaching, research and administration.
Under the arrangement, BICTDA will provide technical expertise and resources, while the university will coordinate implementation within its academic structure.
Further steps include the development of training materials, identification of participants and the scheduling of programme timelines. University representatives also indicate plans to integrate AI into academic curricula, research frameworks and administrative systems.
