The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has launched a technology-driven Enforcement Portal designed to strengthen corporate compliance and improve tax enforcement by making it easier to identify non-compliant businesses and enhance regulatory collaboration across Nigeria.
The new digital platform, unveiled during the practical training of the Commission’s first batch of Enforcement Field Officers in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, is expected to transform how the CAC monitors compliance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) while supporting wider government efforts to expand the country’s tax net.
Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer of the CAC, personally led the training, introducing enforcement officers to the platform’s digital tools that will underpin field inspections and regulatory enforcement.
Although the CAC is not a tax collection agency, the new Enforcement Portal is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s tax compliance ecosystem by improving the accuracy of corporate records and making it easier to identify businesses operating outside statutory requirements. Businesses that fail to register with the CAC or comply with post-incorporation obligations often remain outside the formal regulatory and tax systems.
CAC: Digital enforcement to support tax compliance
Although the CAC is not a tax collection agency, the new Enforcement Portal is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s tax compliance ecosystem by improving the accuracy of corporate records and making it easier to identify businesses operating outside statutory requirements.
Businesses that fail to register with the CAC or comply with post-incorporation obligations often remain outside the formal regulatory and tax systems.
By digitising enforcement operations, the Commission will be better positioned to identify such entities, encourage formalisation and improve the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate database, which is increasingly relied upon by tax authorities, financial institutions, regulators and law enforcement agencies.
The initiative also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy of using digital technologies and data integration to improve revenue mobilisation, enhance transparency and reduce regulatory leakages.
The Enforcement Portal was introduced during a hands-on training session attended by the Commission’s first batch of Enforcement Field Officers.
According to the CAC, the platform has been developed to simplify field operations by replacing manual processes with a technology-enabled system that improves operational efficiency, promotes transparency and strengthens regulatory compliance.
Officers received practical instruction on the platform’s functionality, equipping them with the knowledge required to deploy the system during inspections and enforcement activities nationwide.
“The Registrar-General/CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, today personally led the first practical training session for CAC Enforcement Field Officers on navigating the Commission’s newly launched Enforcement Portal in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos,” the Commission said in a statement seen by Technology Times.
According to the commission, the practical exercise marks the beginning of the operational rollout of the digital enforcement platform.
“The hands-on session equipped officers with the knowledge and skills to effectively deploy the technology-driven platform, which was developed by the Innovation, Digital and Service Unit of the Commission to simplify enforcement operations, enhance efficiency, promote transparency and strengthen regulatory compliance across Nigeria,” the statement added.
From registration to digital regulation
The deployment represents another milestone in the CAC’s digital transformation programme, extending technology beyond business registration and post-incorporation services into regulatory enforcement.
Over the past few years, the commission says it has digitised several corporate services, including business registration, post-incorporation filings and public access to company records, significantly reducing paperwork and physical visits to its offices.
The Enforcement Portal builds on these reforms by digitising compliance monitoring and field operations, enabling officers to record inspections, verify business information and document enforcement actions through a centralised digital platform.
The transition is expected to improve consistency in regulatory enforcement while creating stronger audit trails and greater accountability.
Industry observers say digital enforcement systems can significantly improve the quality of corporate information available to government institutions.
Accurate and up-to-date corporate records support multiple public-sector functions, including tax administration, anti-money laundering compliance, beneficial ownership verification, financial supervision and business regulation.
As Nigeria increasingly adopts data-driven governance, reliable corporate information has become a critical asset for improving regulatory coordination among government agencies.
The CAC’s Enforcement Portal therefore has implications beyond corporate regulation, supporting a broader ecosystem in which verified business information contributes to more effective compliance across the public sector.
Technology driving smarter regulation
The fact that the platform was developed by the commission’s Innovation, Digital and Service Unit also reflects the growing use of in-house digital innovation to modernise public administration.
Rather than relying solely on manual inspections, enforcement officers will now have access to digital tools designed to improve the speed, consistency and transparency of regulatory activities.
For Nigerian businesses, the new platform underscores a shift towards more data-driven corporate regulation, where compliance is increasingly monitored through digital systems and accurate corporate records become essential not only for meeting statutory obligations but also for participating fully in the country’s formal economy.
