CAPDAN flags off 2015 presidential race in Ikeja Computer Village

The Computers and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN) officially kicked off process for its general elections scheduled for early 2015 Wednesday with the inauguration of an 11-man team to pick new executives for the umbrella body of Ikeja Computer Village, the nation’s biggest technology market cluster in Lagos.

Mr Ganiyu Alimi, Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT) of CAPDAN, who performed the formal inauguration the 11-member Electoral Committee, says it is part of the association’s efforts to reinforce its belief in the democratic process of governance in the market.
The 11-member committee, which is made of active members of the association, is expected to conduct free and fair elections of new officers to run the association in line with its constitution, according to CAPDAN.

The BoT Chairman enjoined members of the Committee to take the task very seriously, explaining that CAPDAN is very much interested in transparency and credibility.
‘’We have look around and assembled together women and men of integrity. They would reshape our association by ensuring that we would at the end produce a new set of credible executive committee members that would take our association to the next level of progress and development’’, Alimi said.
At the formal inauguration, the BoT Chairman was flanked by Mr Tunji Balogun, outgoing President of CAPDAN. Also at the event was Mrs Nike Shittu, MD of Mojoy Computers, who has in an interview with Technology Times declared her intention to run for the office of the President of CAPDAN.

There are also strong indications that other contenders may join the race, authoritative sources confirmed to Technology Times.
Explaining the roles of the committee, the BoT Chairman added that the team would among other things, coordinate registration of CAPDAN members and create a members register for credible electoral process.
The team will also develop and set up financial /administrative procedures to ensure transparent governance, and also set up of electoral procedures and guidelines.
The newly elected members were however made to take an oath of the new office in accordance with the association constitution
Prior to the inauguration the chairman of the BOT dissolved the past executive and enjoined them to join forces with the new members in achieving their desire goal.
‘’We request the past Executive Committee members to assist the Electoral Committee as may be necessary in the execution of their assignments to ensure quick and speedy completion of the job at hand.
‘’We look forward to the highest standard of performance as we rely on you to redirect our association to the right course’’, he adds.
The new committee is expected to elect a chairperson amongst themselves and work harmoniously with each other ’’while they have two months from 1st of January 2015 to accomplish their assignments”, Alimi added.
This implies that the election date will be picked by the electoral committee before the end of February 2015.
Members of the Committee include Mr Abiodun Mustapha; Mr Agbaje Collins; Mr Alozie Dike; Mr Amodu Kayode and Mr Ayo Omolayo.
Others include Mr Debo Soyebo; Mrs  Ijeoma Philomena; Mrs Jumoke Moronfolu; Mr Okogua Obasuyi; Mr Okoye Steve and Sir V.O Odinaka.
