Lagos. March 9, 2013: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed its participation as Host Country Partner in AITEC’s sixth annual Banking & Mobile Money West Africa Conference, organisers of the event have announced.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the CBN Governor will be represented by a senior official at the opening of the conference taking place March 13-14, this year at the Eko Hotel & Suites and the apex bank will have a stand in the expo area to network with delegates and provide information on its Cashless Society campaign.

Announcing CBN’s support, Sean Moroney, AITEC Chairman welcomed the bank’s endorsement of the conference as a valuable educational and networking platform for the financial services sector.

“There is an on-going need for dialogue between the regulator and banks and other financial service providers and we are delighted that the conference will be used to advance that dialogue,” he said.

He pointed out that dialogue would be an on-going theme of the conference, especially because Making Finance Work For Africa and its partners is holding a Feedback Workshop as part of the conference.

The workshop will map out mobile banking donor initiatives in Africa, followed by a presentation by CGAP on the impact of mobile banking as a key solution for greater financial inclusion in Africa.

According to Moroney, the workshop will set the stage for deepening engagement between MFW4A partners, telecom operators, service providers, NGOs, civil society, financial policy makers, ICT practitioners and private sector bankers as they explore innovative mobile banking approaches in Africa.

Over 200 banking and payments technology leaders are expected to attend the event, including over 40 local and international experts who will be making presentations or participating in panel discussions over the two-day programme, organisers said.
