Ikenna Ikechukwu, the 2024 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee champion, assumed the role of “CEO for a Day” at MTN Nigeria today, in a unique initiative aimed at nurturing young leadership.
Ikechukwu, a student at Glorious Covenant School in Rivers State, was given the opportunity to lead a board meeting and interact with senior executives.
MTN Nigeria, one of Africa’s largest telecommunications companies, has long championed educational excellence and youth empowerment through initiatives like the mPulse Spelling Bee.
The mPulse Spelling Bee, which attracts thousands of students across Nigeria, is a flagship initiative that brings together Nigerian students aged 9 to 15 who are on the mPulse tariff plan.
Ikenna, now serving symbolically as the CEO for Nigeria’s largest telecom operator, impressed senior management during his inaugural board meeting. “With confidence, vision, and undeniable leadership potential, he led his first meeting like a seasoned pro,” MTN Nigeria says in a statement. “This is more than just a day in the CEO seat—it’s a glimpse into a future of impact and innovation!”
In addition to the unique leadership experience, the winner of the mPulse Spelling Bee received a generous prize package that includes a ₦5 million scholarship grant, a laptop, a smartphone, and an mPulse goody bag. For the school, an ICT lab equipped with 10 laptops and 10 MTN Hynetflex units, and for the teacher, a cash prize of ₦500,000.
