Google says it has introduced significant updates to its Chrome browser, automating the Safety Check feature to run continuously in the background.
Google: Chrome enhanced for secure browsing experience
According to Google, this enhancement provides users with a more proactive and secure browsing experience. The automated Safety Check now handles several tasks, including revoking permissions from sites users no longer visit and flagging unwanted notifications. It will also notify users if any immediate action is required, such as addressing a security issue.
Enhanced Permissions and Notification Management
“Safety Check will also protect against abusive notifications by automatically revoking notification permissions from sites Google Safe Browsing finds to be deceiving users into granting the permission,” Google says. Additionally, the feature will inform desktop users if any installed Chrome extensions pose a security risk, providing quick options to manage or remove them.
Google explains that users can now also unsubscribe from unwanted notifications with just one tap. This feature, already reducing notification volumes by 30% on supported Pixel devices, will soon roll out to other Android devices, making it even easier to manage notifications.
One-Time Permissions for Privacy Control
Google has also introduced one-time permissions for both Android and Desktop versions, giving users more control over what data they share with websites. “You can choose to grant select permissions such as access to your camera or mic to a site for one time only, helping you better manage your online privacy. Once you leave the site, Chrome will revoke the permissions. The site won’t be able to use those permissions until you explicitly grant them again”, according to Google .
