The Cross River State Government says it has created online platforms for the internet community to participate in the 2024 Calabar Carnival, under plans to bring the annual festival to the global audience.
The 2024 Calabar Carnival has been taken to a to also allow people in the diaspora to participate as revelers under plans to take the festival worldwide, the Cross River State Carnival Commission says.

The Calabar Carnival, also known as “Africa’s Biggest Street Party,” was created in 2004 to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and promote tourism. Over the years, it has grown into a major international event, attracting millions of visitors worldwide.
The carnival officially began on the midnight of December 1 with the lighting of a towering 40-foot Christmas tree at Millennium Park, Calabar by Senator Bassey Otu, Cross River State Governor, alongside sponsors and partners of the festival.
The Calabar Carnival, also known as “Africa’s Biggest Street Party,” was created in 2004 to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and promote tourism. Over the years, it has grown into a major international event, attracting millions of visitors worldwide.
Speaking during the event, Sir Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, shared the lineup for this year’s festival. “The carnival,” Onah says, “will run for 32 days, starting November 30, 2024, with activities such as a boat regatta, the Voices of Calabar choir competition, and the Queen of Humanity beauty contest. We also have Elders’ Night, an exclusive event for those above 65, featuring live music and a performance by a legendary artist.”
To add a layer of excitement, the 2024 Calabar Carnival will also include a carnival lottery, where participants will predict the winning carnival band. “This feature adds suspense and thrill, engaging both revelers and spectators in a unique way,” Onah adds.
To join in the celebration, the Cross River State Government has encouraged everyone to register online on the online platform created for the carnival and download the My Cross River App on Google Play Store and App Store to register to be part of the festival.
