The Ministry of Finance wants public servants to embrace digital transformation in the workplace to enhance productivity and economic development in Nigeria.
Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who made the call during a town hall meeting with staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance, says that public servants should embrace digitization and innovation in the workplace.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, represented Lydia Shehu Jafiya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, underscored the significance of leveraging technology and adopting modern work ethics to improve productivity, efficiency, and transparency in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s Administration.
Wale Edun on why digital transformation matters in public sector
According to Edun, “the world has gone digital, and as such, civil servants must not be left behind in the global transformation. Digitisation and innovation are critical to improving our service delivery, and we must all be on board so as to ensure full implementation of the policies and programmes of the Federal Government aimed at boosting socio-economic development of our nation”.
He assured the staff that the Ministry is committed to providing the necessary training, support, and conducive work environment to facilitate this transition.
“We are committed to creating a digital economy that works for all Nigerians, our workers are key to achieving this vision, and we urge them to embrace digitisation and innovation with enthusiasm,” the Minister said.
Jafiya also commended the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Head of Service, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack in particular, for their commitment to driving the digitisation of the Federal Public Service, to enhance service delivery, as well as contribute to the economic growth and development of Nigeria.
Jafiya underscored the Ministry’s dedication to utilizing technology to drive reforms and improve service delivery. She reassured staff that their welfare and capacity training would be prioritised, and a conducive working environment would be established to support their operations.
During the town hall meeting, various departments came together to address pressing matters related to staff welfare and training. Key issues discussed included staff training and development programs, promotion and career advancement opportunities, welfare packages, and initiatives to enhance the overall work experience. The meeting served as a platform for open dialogue and a shared commitment to the growth and success of the Ministry.
