The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has asked Nigerians and legal residents who have enrolled for the e-ID card and have been issued their National Identification Number (NIN) to be patient over delay in issuance of their cards.
The agency says that SMS-based invitations to pick up their cards will be sent to them soon.
According to the national identity manager, citizens and legal residents who enrolled in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and who were successfully issued a NIN are now its immediate priority for card issuance, in that order.
“Recall that we only launched the electronic ID Card and commenced issuance by this time last year. The delay in the immediate issuance of cards to old enrollees (2012, 2013) was because we had to clean up a lot of data to fit current realities and technology.”
“The new National e-ID Card is one Rome that wasn’t built in a day, we solicit more support and patience from Nigerians as we strive to serve you better. Everyone will get their cards in due course,” the Commission says in the announcement.
