The Edo State Government says it is introducing mechanised farming to transform the agricultural sector across the state.
Governor Monday Okpebholo unfolded the plan during a meeting with the Edo State Association of Commodity Market Women and Men ( ESACM).
Governor Okpebholo emphasised the importance of agriculture in the state’s economy, reiterating his commitment to boost food production and security and job creation for the people of Edo State.
“In the same January 2025, we are going to start massive mechanized farming in Edo State,” Governor Okpebholo says. “We are poised to ensure that food is available to all, even in these challenging times. Agriculture is vital to our state’s economy, and investing in mechanised farming will boost food production, create jobs, and ensure food security for our people.”
Governor Okpebholo also announced plans to give out interest-free loans to Edo traders to provide financial support that ensures they have the resources to expand their business.
“Early in January 2025, we shall begin to provide interest-free loans to Edo traders. Our traders are the backbone of our economy, and we must support them with the needed capital to help boost their businesses and improve the State’s economy.” Governor Okpebholo adds.
Responding, President of ESACM expressed gratitude for the government’s initiative noting that it will be a game-changer for traders and farmers, which will in turn drive economic reforms in the state.
“With this initiative,” the ESACM President says, “Edo State is on track to becoming a model for economic revitalization in Nigeria, paving the way for a prosperous future for all its residents.”
According to the state government, the mechanised farming initiative is planned to enhance Edo State’s capacity for large scale farming and equally attract investments and partnership with agricultural companies. This is expected to improve the livelihood of Edo residents and ensure sustainable economic growth.
