EFFC trails tech syndicate ‘in N2.2b Nigerian bank heist’

A syndicate providing technology service to a Nigerian bank has successfully used computer networks to steal N2.2 billion from the vault of the financial institution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Nigeria (EFCC), which is investigating the heist, told a cybersecurity forum today in Lagos.

In yet another case, a staff of another bank also successfully moved a total of N600 million from his bank in several tranches of depositors funds into accounts opened in other banks, Ibrahim Lamorde, chief of EFCC told the forum today to underscore the spreading malaise of crimes carried using new technologies like the Internet.
