The Enugu State Government is set to distribute 20,000 personal computers to 20,000 civil servants, in a move officials say will accelerate the digitisation of the state’s public service.
Dr Godwin Anigbo, Head of Service, announced the initiative after the State Executive Council meeting, noting that the deployment of PCs will usher in a new era of efficiency, accountability and performance tracking within the civil service.
“This government is so interested in using technology to solve problems,” Anigbo told Government House correspondents. “When this digitisation process takes full effect, we are going to have increased productivity in the public service, which will also help to track performance. Civil service is very critical in terms of implementing systematic policies and reforms of this administration. The state government is committed.”
According to him, the initiative marks a key step towards modernising government operations and equipping public servants with digital tools that reflect the demands of a technology-driven administration.
Beyond the digitisation announcement, the Enugu State Government also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof. Simon Ortuanya as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)—the first from the Enugu North Zone to hold the position.
The computer rollout is expected to form part of the administration’s broader efforts to embed digital transformation in governance, positioning Enugu among Nigerian states leveraging technology to drive public sector reforms.
