Globacom Limited is retooling its internal process to deliver innovative offerings across its range of telecoms services to subscribers as it launches a bullish run for what Mrs Bella Disu, the executive vice chairman of Nigeria’s second national operator (SNO) calls “the path of sustained competitive advantage.”
The SNO’s fully owned mobile business unit, Glo Mobile, which is the number three mobile network operator in Nigeria by subscriber base, competes with MTN Nigeria, owned by South Africa’ MTN Group; Airtel Nigeria, owned by India’s Bharti Airtel and 9mobile, owned by Nigerian investors among other smaller telecoms companies.
“To be on the path of sustained competitive advantage, we have to offer our subscribers quality, innovation, efficiency and customer responsiveness,” the Globacom’s executive vice chairman says about the telecoms giant which launched commercial operation in 2003 when her father, Dr Mike Adenuga Jnr, launched the indigenous greenfield telecoms business under the Glo brand name.

To stay on track of the “the path of sustained competitive advantage,” the Globacom EVC says “the excellence in service delivery starts from within, so we have to have a culture of excellence to build, to give to our customers and really for good welcome. To be on the path of sustained competitive advantage, we have to offer our subscribers quality, innovation, efficiency and customer responsiveness.”
Bella Disu: excellence in service delivery starts from within Globacom
Competition in the Nigerian telecoms market continues to get keener as official market figures show that the telecoms industry now accounts for 154,904,827 active phone lines, 132,907,001 active internet connections and 90,102,835 broadband connections as of Q3 2024.
Under the plan, Globacom’s EVC says in a video posted on social media service, LinkedIn, that the telecoms group is upskilling its team and also reviewing its internal processes to remain competitive in the Nigerian telecoms market.
“Today we had Phillips Consulting and a few of our HODs facilitate a training while various staff from different regions came to the HQ on effective service delivery,” Disu says.
The Globacom EVC who hinted at how she balances life and work says that “there will be times when you want to feel like doing critical activities, learning to do things we need to do, regardless of how you feel as a correspondent for success. Our commitments, ultimately issued by lives, create lasting relationships, drive our results, and help build our character. Then it’s just something incredibly empowering about knowing that if you say you’re going to do something, you can count on yourself and you don’t need to know that. So everyone, I please implore all of us to be on the path for sustained excellence.”
Over the past two decades, the SNO has launched several innovative triple play services across voice, data and video including its flagship Glo 1 undersea cable.
“We have made history as the first single company to build a high-capacity sub marine fibre-optic cable, popularly known as Glo-1, the first successful submarine cable from the United Kingdom to Nigeria; with the attendant high increases in internet speeds and download rates with resultant significant improvements in online technologies, the SNO says about the submarine cable link.
