Dr. Ogbonnanya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology has said that Nigeria is hoping that technology will complement efforts to develop its human capital potentials.

The Minister dropped  this hint when Gu Xiaojie, outgoing Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Nigeria paid him a farewell visit in Abuja.

Onu says that as part of its commitment to ensure that all projects in the country are executed by Nigerians, the Federal Government is committed to growing human capacity and stimulate the interest of young people in Science, Technology and Engineering.

For the Minister, the ”initiation and utilisation of Science and Technology is the instrument of development in the global economy.”

According to him, “Nigeria is harnessing partnerships with developed countries and international organisations that are interested and ready to encourage the development and the stimulation of the interest of young people in science, engineering and technology.”

While expressing his appreciation to the outgoing ambassador for facilitating the signing of the memorandum of understanding between his Ministry and China, he commended him for the enormous work he has done within the period he served as the China Ambassador to Nigeria.

The outgoing Ambassador on his part expressed  gratitude to Nigeria for enhancing the mutual beneficial understanding and friendship between China and Nigeria over the years, noting that his stay in Nigeria was characterised by many significant and landmark achievements.

Xiaojie further noted that the diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and China has lasted for over 46 years while partnership relationship is over 10 years.

The outgoing Ambassador congratulated Nigeria saying that the country is on the path of greatness while adding that China would always support the commitment of the regional summit to combat terrorism and the fight against corruption.
