The Federal Government has ordered Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) currently hosting official data on foreign platforms to migrate to Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), the government-owned technology company, as part of a national policy drive to safeguard Nigeria’s digital sovereignty.
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, who disclosed this, says the government’s renewed mandate underscores the company’s role as a trusted partner for public sector digital transformation.
In a circular issued through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the government reaffirms GBB as the central platform for building Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The government-owned ICT services provider is mandated to deliver IP-network connectivity, data centre hosting, and other digital infrastructure for MDAs under the “Nigeria First Policy” that prioritises local solutions.

FG: Migration of MDAs’ data to Galaxy Backbone will bolster national security
With the new directive, Galaxy Backbone becomes the official Government Data Exchange Platform and interoperability layer powering Nigeria’s DPI, a core backbone designed to link digital services across the public sector.
“We have repositioned our organisation in such a way that the MDAs experience the quality, reliability, and innovation of our services and they can see in us a partner in their digital transformation journey,” Adeyanju says.
“Our pledge is to listen, collaborate, and provide tailored digital infrastructure solutions that meet the unique needs of each agency, while ensuring Nigeria’s data remains safe within our borders.”
The Federal Government says the migration of MDA data from foreign to GBB’s local platforms will bolster data security, improve compliance with global standards, and align with the national vision for a digitally empowered public sector.
Backed by ISO certifications and international frameworks, GBB says it is positioning to accelerate e-government rollouts while boosting efficiency and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
The FG expects that the strengthened collaboration with MDAs will accelerate the rollout of e-government services, while also boosting efficiency and contributing to economic growth.
