The Federal Government College (FGC) Warri has emerged winner of the 18th Annual GLOBE Project Exhibition Competition, a national platform that encourages senior secondary students to use technology in tackling environmental challenges.

Hosted by FGC Keffi, Nasarawa State, the competition which is themed “Climate Investigations: Understanding the Earth as a System and Solar as a Source of Renewable Energy” allowed participants to showcase how technology can provide solutions to climate-related problems, with focus on renewable energy and environmental management.

Dr. (Mrs.) M.A. Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education, spoke of the role of technology in advancing environmental research among young Nigerians while celebrating Nigeria’s accomplishments in international GLOBE competitions.

“I encourage schools to continue active participation in environmental research,” she says.
Professor Kola Lawal, one of the project assessors, stressed the importance of simplicity and clarity in presenting solutions. “Focus on addressing specific issues, presenting solutions step by step,” he noted.
Mrs. Modupe Amunulayi, Assistant Director of Environmental Science, urges participants to design solutions that are both practical and locally adaptable. “Your projects should align with available resources to maximise impact,” she says, reminding students that “simplicity and suitability are key.”
Seventeen schools reached the grand finale after rigorous zonal competitions. FGC Warri emerged the overall winner. The school received ₦50,000 to expand their project, along with certificates and cameras for further environmental research.
In her closing address, Dr. Olodo encourages participants to think beyond the competition and use technology to drive real-world change. “How you present your project matters as much as the project itself,” she says noting that. “simplicity and clarity in presentation are essential.”
