FibreOne says it has surpassed 54,000 subscribers, marking a significant milestone in its growth as one of Nigeria’s leading fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband providers.
The broadband company disclosed the figure during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), where a delegation led by its Head of Regulatory and Public Relations, Mr Kenny Joda, held a meeting with the National Commissioner/CEO, Dr Vincent Olatunji.
Joda says the company’s expanding customer base makes it imperative to strengthen trust by ensuring compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act, 2023). He commends the Commission for its role in driving Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem and underscores the company’s readiness to partner with the regulator to safeguard customer data.

“With over 54,000 customers now relying on our services, it is essential to build and maintain trust in our data processing activities. The NDPC is at the heart of Nigeria’s digital economy, and we are committed to working with the Commission to uphold its mandate,” Joda says.

In his response, Dr Olatunji commends the company for taking proactive steps to engage the Commission, stressing that trust and compliance are critical pillars in the digital economy. He warns of the consequences of non-compliance but highlights benefits such as enhanced credibility, competitiveness, and consumer confidence.
“Every stakeholder in the data protection and privacy ecosystem must foster a culture of compliance. For operators like FibreOne, this will not only build customer trust but also open opportunities in the global digital market,” the NDPC boss says.
FibreOne: Why data protection matters for our business
The company says its engagement with the Commission reflects a deeper commitment to safeguarding customer trust as the company scales.
“In today’s digital economy, data protection is no longer optional — it is fundamental to customer trust and business sustainability. For an Internet Service Provider like FibreOne, which serves more than 54,000 users across Nigeria, safeguarding customer data is as important as delivering fast and reliable connectivity,” the company says in a statement.
According to broadband service provider, every online activity that passes through its network carries “something priceless — our customers’ data.” The company stresses that data protection is not only about regulatory compliance but about trust, which it describes as “the currency that keeps our relationship with customers strong.”
The company says aligning with the NDPA 2023 means two things:
- safeguarding customer information with integrity and transparency, and
- building confidence in its services as a trusted ISP.
According to the company, several themes emerged from its discussions with the NDPC, including:
- Collaboration for stronger compliance: working closely with the Commission to align practices with the NDPA 2023 and set industry-leading standards.
- Trust as a cornerstone: reinforcing the NDPC’s position that trust is the foundation of every data-driven business.
- Capacity building and training: supporting the domestication and certification of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) to strengthen sector capacity.
- Opportunities for growth: tapping into new employment and talent development prospects emerging from the data protection ecosystem.
The engagement, it says, marks another milestone in its journey to become “not just a service provider, but a trusted digital partner.”
“As we move forward, one thing is clear: data protection is customer protection. And at FibreOne, protecting our customers will always remain at the heart of everything we do,” the company says.
