The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has integrated Flutterwave’s payment system into its tax collection process, the fintech company has announced.
Flutterwave, a payments infrastructure fintech, announced the partnership, saying that the integration would allow taxpayers to make payments online via debit and credit cards, bank transfers, or in-person at commercial banks.

“Paying taxes in Nigeria just got easier! We are excited to announce that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has integrated our payment solutions to make tax payments simpler, easier, and faster for everyone,” the fintech company says in a statement seen by Technology Times.
Before this integration, many taxpayers had to visit FIRS offices or banks physically, often facing long processing times and bureaucratic bottlenecks. By incorporating Flutterwave’s payment gateway into the FIRS TaxPro ProMax platform, the agency is moving toward a more digital tax system.

“Nigerians at home and abroad can pay their taxes easily using payment methods they are familiar with – debit/credit cards and bank transfer,” Flutterwave says.

The company also says its payment system is designed to process tax payments faster and provide instant receipts for transparency.
The integration is expected to benefit businesses, accountants, and individual taxpayers who previously found tax payments cumbersome.
According to Flutterwave, the payment system will streamline tax payments for:
- Small business owners, who can now pay taxes without disrupting their operations.
- Accountants and tax consultants, who can manage multiple tax filings more efficiently.
- Individuals, including freelancers and employees paying personal income tax.
How it works
To use the system, taxpayers must log into the FIRS TaxPro Max portal, select the type of tax they want to pay—such as Withholding Tax (WHT), Company Income Tax (CIT), or Value-Added Tax (VAT)—and choose Flutterwave as the payment option.
A Payment Reference Number (PRN) is then generated, which can be used to complete the transaction either online or at a commercial bank. Once payment is made, taxpayers receive an instant confirmation and receipt.
Flutterwave also says security is a priority as its payment infrastructure complies with global industry standards to protect transactions and data.
The integration aligns with FIRS’s ongoing push to modernise tax collection in Nigeria by leveraging digital tools to improve efficiency.
Technology Times earlier reported the FIRS’s plans to implement an electronic invoicing system to enhance overall financial management.
