The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is warning the public about fraudulent social media accounts impersonating Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
According to the Ministry, the fake accounts, which have appeared on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, are being used to solicit money, personal favours and make false promises of contract awards from unsuspecting members of the public.
“These activities are aimed at tarnishing the reputation and integrity of the Office of the Permanent Secretary,” the Ministry said in a statement.

It emphasises that Ambassador Ahmed does not operate personal social media accounts for official or professional purposes, noting that all communications from his office are only released through the Ministry’s verified channels.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry wishes to reiterate that the Permanent Secretary will never promise or make offers of contract awards, or solicit funds and personal favours through social media or unverified channels,” it added.
The Ministry advised members of the diplomatic community and the general public to exercise caution and disregard messages from such fake accounts. Citizens were also urged to report impersonation attempts to the relevant social media platforms and to the Nigerian Police Force Cybercrime Unit.
It said security and regulatory agencies are already working to track down the perpetrators, while reaffirming that the Federal Government remains committed to upholding integrity and transparency in its operations and will not tolerate attempts to defraud citizens or undermine public trust.
