One of the winners, 40-year-old Mustapha Adebayo who lives in Akowonjo area of Egbeda, Lagos, said he found it difficult to express himself when the reality that he had become a millionaire dawned on him. According to him, he probably would not have believed it, if he had been called by any other number other than Globacom’s Customer Service number 121.
The winner who works as a security consultant was effusive with thanks to Globacom for keeping its promise to its subscribers while adding that the company had gained leadership of the telecoms market in Nigeria as a result of its consistent commitment to the welfare of its subscribers. ‘’Globacom has always exhibited interest in the well being of Nigerians, I am not surprised that this is happening to me. It is consistent with Globacom’s reputation built over the years’’, he enthused.
For 29-year-old Opeyemi Orelaja, a marketer with Sterling Bank, Challenge, Ibadan, the money could not have come at a better time. Though he initially doubted the authenticity of the call owing to the antics of fraudsters, he added that the persistence of calls from Globacom’s customer care eventually convinced him of the genuineness of the call. ‘’When I confirmed that the call was genuine, I could not contain my joy. I was so thrilled that I could not sleep for days”.
Opeyemi said though he was aware that a promo was on, he merely recharged his phone as was customary. ‘’I have always been a Glo subscriber and I recharged regularly because I usually make very heavy calls in my line of business”.
He plans to use his winnings to expand his office cleaning business which he does on the sidelines to augment his income. “I will use the one million Naira to buy cleaning machines, chemicals and other equipment required to have a thriving cleaning firm”, he added.
Globacom urged telecoms subscribers across the country to take advantage of the N120m Glo Overload promo to stand a chance to become millionaires by dialling *200# to opt in once and then recharge with N200 and above as many times as the subscriber wishes.
Chief(Mrs.) Josephine Okeke Onwudinwe , the Iyaloja of Oluwole Market in Lagos, who led a delegation of market women to witness the event commended the telecoms company for empowering the Nigerian populace through promotions as these.
She said the presentation of cheques of a million Naira each to the 20 winners will alleviate poverty in their respective homes with a cascading effect in Nigeria as a whole.
