The Governor of Gombe said that his administration hopes to reduce dependence on external funding sources to administer the national sub-entity christened as the ‘Jewel of the Savannah’.

Governor Yahaya expressed confidence in the leadership of GIRS and pledged his support towards achieving their mandate. He emphasized the state’s aspiration to achieve self-sufficiency, stating, “We envision a state that can meet the needs of its people without relying on national allocation.”

In response, Aisha Yaro, the newly appointed chairperson of GIRS, pledged to surpass expectations with the governor’s support. Under her leadership, GIRS exceeded its 2023 revenue target by 15%, reaching a record IGR of over N15 billion. Now, the service has set an ambitious target of N22 billion for 2024, representing a significant 100% increase from the previous year.
