More than 1.2 billion World Cup-related searches were made on Google as at the end of the first round of the tournament, with Cristiano Ronaldo topping the most searched players’ list, according to the search engine giant.
Cristiano Ronaldo beat his longtime rival, Lionel Messi to the second place while rising Brazilian icon, Neymar was third.
In the most searched goal category, Robin Van Persie’s leaping header against Spain topped the chart. Lionel Messi’s first World Cup goal in eight years came second, while Dempsey’s goal in the U.S.A’s 2-1 victory over Ghana, which came 32 seconds after the start of the match came third.
For the most searched matches’ category, England and Italy’s Group D clash took the top spot. The USA’s match against Ghana took second place in search. Brazil vs. Mexico match came third.
