Google has introduced its fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, which promises even more innovation with a redesigned interface and improved functionality.
A key feature of latest Nest Learning Thermostat is its 60% larger domed crystal LCD display which is enhanced by multiple layers of mirror and coloured films, eliminating bezels for a seamless look.
“AI can more quickly and accurately create your personalized, energy-saving temperature schedules. With Smart Schedule, the thermostat learns which temperatures you choose most often or changes in behaviour based on motion detected in your home — like coming home earlier — and automatically adjusts your temperature schedule to match,” Google says.
According to Google, the new Dynamic Farsight allows users to customise the home screen, displaying the time, temperature, weather, or outdoor air quality at a glance.
Google Nest Learning Thermostat ‘leverages AI’
Building on its legacy of energy efficiency, Google said the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) leverages artificial intelligence to make micro-adjustments based on user patterns. This optimises comfort while reducing energy consumption. The device also considers external weather conditions, pausing heating on sunny winter days or adjusting for humidity to maintain the desired indoor temperature.

The accompanying second-generation Nest Temperature Sensor helps manage hot and cold spots within the home and allows for prioritising temperatures in specific rooms, such as a baby’s room during nap time. Up to six sensors can be added for greater control, with the ability to average temperatures across multiple sensors and activate them based on schedules.
“When we first developed the Nest Learning Thermostat, it was built on the principle that a thermostat doesn’t have to look like a bulky gadget on the wall — it can be something that compliments your home, and be beautiful in both function and form. Now we’re taking a major step forward, evolving the design of our award-winning Nest thermostat and building upon what customers loved about the original,” Google says.
Building on the success of the original Nest Learning Thermostat which was first introduced 13 years ago, Google aims to revolutionise the smart home experience by bringing intelligence and aesthetic appeal to a previously mundane home device.
