Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State says that by September 2025, all children aged 3 to 15 in each of the smart schools to be opened across the state will benefit from free world-class education.
Governor Mbah, who made this pledge while speaking during his new year message, says the children in the planned smart schools will also be given a nourishing daily meal. The Govenor who promised that the speed of transformation witnessed 2024 will not slow down and will be sustained in 2025, says that the people of Enugu should look forward to a greater milestone.
“The high expectations that have arisen as a result of the successes of the outgoing year are understandable. We cannot afford to temper your expectations with excuses, or by lowering our deliverables,” Governor Mbah says.

The Smart Green Schools initiative which began in early 2024, is a part of the administration commitment to establishing smart centres across all urban and rural areas in the state. Each Smart Green School will be equipped with digital learning tools preparing its students with relevant skills for the world ahead, according to the Enugu State Government.

“This year, the doors of our Smart Schools will open across the entire state, bringing, almost in a literal sense, a world of opportunities to our children’s classrooms,” Governor Mbah adds.
Another key project slated to be commissioned is the International Conference Centre. The facility is a symbol of the states ambition to become a premier destination for business, investment, tourism and living under Enugu State’s plan to grow its economy from $4.4bn to $30bn, and this remains uncompromised according to the Governor.
“This project is not just about constructing a building; it’s about laying the foundation for a vibrant and modern economy,” Governor Mbah says.
Governor Mbah assures citizens of the state that the development trajectory established in 2024 would not slow down. “We went through 2024 with the spritely dash of a sprint runner. 2025 will be no different,” he says. “There would be no slowing down to catch our breath, because our strong resolve to transform Enugu State has imbued us with the endurance of a marathon runner.”
In addition to the Smart Green Schools and the International Conference Centre, other projects slated for commissioning are Primary Healthcare Centres which is designed to improve access to quality medical care in remote locations, urban and rural road networks, and new bus terminals to enhance public transportation.
As the New Year begins, Governor Mbah called on the people of Enugu State to embrace love, empathy, and charity as the key ingredients for nation-building. He says that development must be inclusive, ensuring that no one is left behind.
“It is the reason we have carefully structured our development model in a way that is inclusive, and that ensures we’re not growing our economy at the expense of our common humanity. I can confidently assure you that we’re on track; we’re carrying everyone along, and will never veer off this track in this New Year” Governor Mbah adds.
