The Federal Government has alerted the public of the creation of fake social media accounts in the identity of Boni Haruna, the new Minster of Youth Development.
The Youth Development Ministry said that the public should disregard the fake Facebook and Twitter accounts set up in the name of Boni Haruna, the ex-Governor of Adamawa State who became the new Minister last month.
Haruna, who was sworn-in on Wednesday March 5, 2014 by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan other new Ministers and has since assumed duty is one of the latest high-profile targets of criminals that “steal the identity” of others to commit crime on the Internet.
“Our attention has been drawn to the existence of fake and fraudulent Face Book and Twitter accounts in the name of the Honorable Minister of Youth Development,Boni Haruna as follows: (a) Face Book – boni.haruna.3; boni.haruna.7; boni.haruna.12; boni.haruna.31 and pages/boniharuna; (b) Twitter – @boniharuna14 and @boniharuna1″, Olusola Abiola, Head, Press and Public Relations said in a statement.
The Ministry however warn all and sundry to be careful against “dealing with these faceless and fraudulent people as the Ministry will not be liable for any unforeseen consequences which may arise from any conversation or dealings with those behind these fraudulent act.”
The statement went further said that, “It is very pertinent to state and emphatically as well as unequivocally, that the Honourable Minister hereby dissociates himself from the content of these Face Book and Twitter accounts. The Honourable Minister did not open nor authorize or instruct anyone or group of persons to initiate or actualize such accounts on his behalf. Evidently, this must be seen as the handiwork of some crooked and unscrupulous elements whose motives can only be to defraud innocent youths and unwary members of the public.”
