
Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation wants the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to be sole agency for biometric identity collection for Nigerians.
According to the nation’s top civil servant, NIMC, Nigeria’s identity manger should be the single organisation for identification of Nigerians so that “a harmonised bio-data collection point for Nigerians to be actualised.”
She disclosed this in her office when a delegation from NIMC led by Engr Aliyu Azeez, the agency’s Director-General, paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja recently.
Oyo-Ita said that the National Identity Card can serve many purposes and says she is hopeful that it can be used in the public sector for human resource and Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
According to her, the National Identity Card is a valuable document that can be used for identification, ATM and data bank operations, including accurate data information of civil servants.
Speaking earlier, the NIMC Director-General, Aliyu Azeez noted that the mandate of the Commission is to create a national identity database that will harmonise all existing database.
He says the National Identity Card has several features that include identification of holders, bank access, driver’s license, voter information and security.
