After quite a long wait by its users across the globe, popular instant messaging app, WhatsApp finally rolled out video call functionality few months back, much t the excitement of its users.
Though the video call function has been activated on WhatsApp since November 2016, I have personally observed that many users of the app, especially in Nigeria are yet to find their way round making a video call on WhatsApp. Some are not yet even aware of the video call update.
It is so important that users of the app are aware of the video call update and take advantage of its simplicity compared to some of its competing apps such as Skype and Google Duo.
All you have to do is update your WhatsApp to the latest version and you are good to make video calls. The video calling update is quite an exciting addition to WhatsApp which may pose some threat to some traditional video calling apps like Skype, Imo and few others.
Already desperate to learn how to get started?
Here is how you can make video calls on WhatsApp:
1. Update the app to the latest version.
2. Launch WhatsApp and tap the name of the contact with whom you want to initiate a video call. Tap the call button.
3. Once this is done, the app will provide the option to either make a video call or a voice call.
4. Select the video call option and get talking.
It is worth noting that the contact you are video calling must also have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on their smartphone, otherwise the call won’t be placed.
Personally I have used the WhatsApp Video call feature. The video and audio quality was really good over Wi-Fi, but was stuttering a bit as I switched to mobile data.
It is quite good that WhatsApp has come out with this feature and I am pretty sure they will make all the necessary improvements in order to stand side by side with other rival apps.
